Polynomial multiplication over F2\mathbb{F}_2

The input is two polynomials over F2\mathbb{F}_2, each given as its nn coefficient bits. The output is the 2n−12n-1 coefficient bits of their product in F2[x]\mathbb{F}_2[x]. Coefficients add without carries, so this is a different problem from integer multiplication. The machine is a deterministic Turing machine with a fixed number of tapes and a fixed alphabet. Its running time counts every step, including reading the input and writing the output. The quantity is κ\kappa in a worst-case running time of O(nlog⁡1−κn)O(n\log^{1-\kappa}n). A higher κ\kappa is better. The classic baseline is above O(nlog⁡n)O(n\log n), so it has no κ\kappa. In it, log⁡∗n\log^*n is the number of times we take the logarithm to bring nn down to at most 1. Harvey and van der Hoeven (2022) reach O(nlog⁡n)O(n\log n) only if an unproved hypothesis on primes in arithmetic progressions holds.

Classic baseline: O(nlog⁡n 4log⁡∗n)O(n\log n\,4^{\log^*n}), published by David Harvey and Joris van der Hoeven in 2019.

A written proof, with substantial AI assistance, that the author has not had reviewed by other people. No Lean proof is supplied. The same repository also claims O(nlog⁡n)O(n\log n) for F2\mathbb{F}_2 by a different method. That bound is κ=0\kappa=0, weaker than this one, and it came in the same commit, so it has no row. The repository also claims κ=1/10000\kappa=1/10000 for each fixed field of odd characteristic, which is a different statement.
